does any one know where i can get a holf of some engine stand building plans, or maybe some of you have a set of plans that could be used to give me ideas? i was looking at building one because it would problly be stronge than those 50.00 cheapies. thanks for your help!
Well I never had a problem even with the cheap ones. What are you looking at building on it? Or you could buy a cheap one and gusset the back end of it.
i plan on building a big block 460, and i think the 40.00 ones are 750 lb capacity and the 50.00 ones are 1000 lb, and the 2000 lb are 110.00. so i was thinking about building one that will probbly hold more than 2000lb if i build one might as well be strong, just was looking to see about premade plans before i make frome scratch, you know maybe be able to modify someone elses plans to fit what i want. thanks fo the help!
I would buy one of the heavier ones and then modify it like the other poster said. I think the only modification you really need, is to get rid of the tricycle wheels (if it's the three wheeled kind). This is the only problem I have ever heard of anyone having. When spinning the engine on a three wheeler, there is a real chance of it turning over. I would just weld a piece of square tubing across the front and put two more casters on it.
I agree that you need to add a crossbar on the stand, the ones that are made at the factory are not up to carrying a 460 safely. Hit a little crack in the floor and it will tip over.
