Before I get started, I'd like to say how much help this website has been to me!I have an early '99 with 96k on it. I bought it used so I'll assume the clutch is original. Sometimes I have trouble shifting into reverse. It's like the gate for reverse/low is not there.?! It'll go into the other gears fairly easy. I can shift to O/D and back to reverse and it'll go in(still hard).
I've read about the slave cylinders and the "bushing" under the dash... I just don't want to take it to the dealer. We just bought a 32'tt and I'm worried about this shifting issue.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike
I had same problem w/ my '97. I was ready to take the big plunge and replace the slave cylinder until the day my clutch hit the floor and stayed there. Ended up that the plastic clutch rod retainer had broken. I rubber banded the clutch rod onto the pedal and found that it was shifting really easy again.
My 2 cents.... spend the 8 bucks at the stealership for the new retainer and see if that solves your problem.
FYI.. I was having to shift to reverse before starting, gears grinding while shifting and I had to push the clutch past the floorboard to start it prior to replacing the plastic retainer.
