Anyone have any idea what mileage i'll get with my1992 F250 7.3L with 4.11 in the rear pulling a 5000lbs trailer. Just curious never took it on vacation.
What tranny?
Where you going to go?
Mountains or flat?
I get about 10 pulling 12,000 with an 86 7.3 turbo and a T 19 4 speed and 3.55's in the WV mountains.
I would say take your current mileage and drop it by about 3 MPG. The added wind resistance will take at least 3 maybe more if the wind is against you.
i finally got my 350 superduty on the road. i have a 355 rear and a 5 speed. at 2200 i am at 70mph. not much acceleration and i don't know if it will pull a trailer and a load on the truck in overdrive. next week i will put the trailer behind it loaded and put a couple yards of dirt on the bed to simulate the actual conditions. i seem to be getting apprioximately 15 mpg on the road and i coaxed it up to 80 mph on the interstate. the tach was reading 2500 rpm at 80. in another couple of miles it would probably got up to 85 or 90 mph. i'm not trying to expect too much out of the old girl, but i would hate to drive from florida to new mexico in 4th gear. however 4th gear produces 58 mph at 2200 rpm.
I have a 94 F250 4x4 super cab long bed with a IDI TD, E40D, 4.10 gears 235/85/16 tires at 80psi. The truck had 122k miles at the start of the trip and a bit over 123k at the end. I drove it back from FL and tested the mileage. Here is what I got...the truck was basically empty...one motorcycle in the bed and pulling a jet ski on a trailer.
Cruise Control set at 70mph (about 2250rpm) --> 13mpg
Cruise Control set at 60mph (about 2000rpm) --> 16.5mpg
Cruise Control set at 55mph (about 1800rpm) --> 21.3mpg
All of the above figures are indicated (as opposed to GPS confirmed etc) and were obtained in very similar moderately hilly conditions on the same day and were tested for more than 100 miles.
I would imagine that your mileage would be somewhat worse than this as my trailer consisted of a 350b jet ski on a 400lb trailer
The main thing to note is the affect of speed on mileage
our trucks sound quite similar (though mine's an auto ), but you dont say if you'v got a turbo?
this truck has no turbo, and i have noticed it really uses a lot of fuel in city driving. i've been driving it every day to get everything all checked out before i leave. good thing too, because i noticed a rear axel seal leak today. i had a 3" Y-pipe made up for it and installed a complete 3" exhaust with a flow master. it sounds great, maybe my milage would get better if i quit listening to that muffler. ha
