My 1979 [F37...] former U-Haul has a "330 XD" engine. It appears to have the large crank snout [1.75"?] and the big 13.5 " clutch. Anyone have info on this engine [FT]?
Going off my 1974 shop manual it lists the 330 in the same engine family as the 360 and 390, but it is for a medium duty truck. Not sure what interchanges on the engines though.
Thank you all for your responces. I have a 1979 Ford shop manual. It doesn't show ANY FE's OR FT's. When I first saw my "F37..." ex-U-Haul I couldn't believe my eyes! There it WAS: a 330 [MD?] in a '79 F-series chassis and it was obviously the original engine! BUT, how could it be? I've read all I could get on FE's and FT's for the last 30+ YEARS and NOBODY has ever said Ford built ANY FE's after about 1977 [in the F series pick-ups], let alone a 330 MD. I have prior year [Ford] shop manuals that cover the FT engines and I worked in the parts dept. of a large Ford dealer from 1969 to 1976 so I am quite familiar with all Ford car and truck gas engines. It seems U-Haul must have made a special purchase of a "run" of trucks. I'm really curious of the engine spec's, WHEN and where they were built, etc.. As I said, my engine is a XD, not a MD or a HD [ as per the Ford decal on the OIL BATH air filter housing] It would be really neat if a Ford engineer responded and posted production figures and specs.
