I have noticed that my 89's clutch is slipping or isn't providing the normal grip it should be. It drives ok, but say I'm going 45-50 on the road (normally runs about 1500 rpm in 5th), and I push the clutch in, and put the RPMs up to about 3k. If I dump the clutch and floor it, the RPMs come down softly/smoothly, theres a second or two of slippage. On my F-150, it would shoot right down and you'd feel the truck shake a little, the clutch would grab hard.
I have a feeling this means my clutch is on it's way out, what do you guys think? It's all coming apart soon, but it's a beater and I don't really want to re-do the clutch. It's getting an M50D and the ZF is being taken out, so I'm wondering if I can use the clutch off my 302/M5OD setup from the F-150, and if so...how...do I absolutely need to re-surface the flywheel? Do I need a new/different pressure plate, or will the pressure plate from the F-150/302/m5 work?
I agree, from your description the clutch appears to not be holding strong. I would resurface the flywheel since it's going to be apart anyways. I don't know if the pressure plates interchange or not.
