Roller cams?

I have been looking at roller cams now and am having my 82 302 rebuilt should i go for the roller cam conversion or look for some different cams. I know some mustangs in the early 90s / late 80s had roller cams and saw a big performance boost. Would it be worth it to retrofit an 82?

Roller cams?

I don't know what the cost of roller-cam conversion would be, but summit sells brand new 302 roller blocks for around 300 dollars no-conversion nescessary. Also you would prolly need to change the distributor gear (Check with the camshaft manufacturer). also sold buy summit raceing. as far as performance benefits over a flat tapet camshaft, i'd go with a roller. You get the performance of a high lift cam, without sacraficeing idle stability or quality (untill you get into really big cams) after all thats what made the mustangs so popular. check with your local machine shop to see what the difference in cost would be between a new block and machineing your old one to hold a roller cam

Roller cams?

Roller cam blocks are a little different they have a lifter girdle in the lifter valley that holds everything in alignment. You would have to machine the block to get this to work. And yes the cam gear would have to change roller cams are steel instead of cast iron and the cam gears have to be compatible.

Roller cams?

A local engine builder told me a FORD roller cam does not need a special gear. Only the aftermarket billet cams. I took his advice and ran a 1975 duraspark II dist and gear on a 86 fuel injected roller cammed motor for 8 years with no problems.
