I have been trying to find a steering column pod with two gauge pods for my '97 5 speed F150 with no luck. Do you have any idea of where I can find one????
Nobody answered my question about the tach. Can I use one out of a V8 F150 of the same year or are the tachs specific to the engines they are in???
I'm asking this because the dealer wants 340 bucks to put one in my truck and I feel I have no choice but to go that route. But PLEASE answer this question! I would truly appreciate it!
I Have Never Seen A Two Guage Pod For The Column. Only Singles. You Can Get Multiple Guage Set-ups For The A-pilars. As For The Factory Tach, I Believe It To Be Specific To The Number Of Cyclinders.
I know this is a non-answer, but the schematics I have (haynes-so take with a grain of salt) do not show any engine specific differences for the instrument panel.
So, am I stuck with having to pay the dealer to have one put in??? You two gave me different answers, and I'm getting a little more confused.
I found the dual pods on the column for the Super Duty but it has a trim ring that follows the curvatures of the instrument cluster. That sucks!!!
I know about the A-pillar gauge pods as I'm ordering a triple gauge pod. I wanted to add two more gauges to make a total of five gauges, but what else can I do to get two more gauges in my truck??
I need some answers ASAP! Sorry if I'm asking so many ?'s! Thanks!
Do you know you need a special module (autometer has it) to get the tach signal from the computer? So what guages are you gonna put in? 5 guages sounds excessive.
Triton_2000, why is that??? I don't get it. I thought Ford already had the wiring harness for it put in my truck?
The gauges I want to put in are voltmeter, air/fuel ratio, pyrometer, fuel pressure and transmission temperature. Autometer offers these gauges under the Cobalt Series.
The reason I want to use em is because they match the black background and they very closely resemble the factory lighting.

I meant that you need the module if you go with the aftermarket tach. But now that I looked closer, you have a 97 (no COPS) so I'm not sure if you do need it. You could get the tach signal from the distributor on the older trucks, but these don't have a distributor, they have coil packs.
Sorry, Triton_2000, I thought you meant I had to put the special module in for the factory tach.
Do you know of anybody that has one I could buy? I know I'm not supposed to post that on here, but I had to ask you anyways. I already looked into the classifieds on here but with no luck.
From what I've heard and read, it's supposed to be a plug in installation. If that is so, could I just buy one from the dealer and put it in myself to save some money? I don't want to pay him 340 bucks!
Tell me what you think and I'll post back later. Thanks!
