Hello everyone on my 85 sb 150 4x4 300 i6 4 speed i have a noise in the front end. It seems to be at slow speeds around corners its like a loose or clunking kinda noise. Iknow its hard to determine this problem over the net but can you give me some key factors of what to look at when i crawl under there and see what the matter is. i dont believe its stering as that im fairly certain has been rebuilt with in the last 2 years

I have this noise in my 83 f150 4x4 too. It stops as soon as I touch the brake. I had a rotor lock up right after I put it on the road. I'm thinking maybe a warped rotor? I have had it up and can't feel any thing loose.
Has anyone thought of the radius arm bushings being wore out could this not cause noise on cornering. The other thing I can think of is possibly the track arm bushings. I can't remember if an F-150 4x4 has a track arm or not. Then again I may be full of it. Just my .02. Mike
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-Feb-02 AT 10:08 AM (EST)]Oops, sorry it wasn't the rotor that locked up it was the caliper. I only had the truck on the road for about a week when this happened. I drove it home (about three miles),let it cool off and re anti-seized the pins and slide area. It hasen't happened since, but thats when the ticking noise started for me.I did replace the radius bushings before inspection. I thought the front brakes would pass but they didn't so I let the garage replace and turn the rotors. I assumed the garage repacked the bearings since they had the hubs apart and the rotors off. I'm not sure what you mean by composition of the rotor and pad. I've noticed that Raybestos sell a "better" and a "cheaper" pad (my parts guys words). The better is painted red and the cheaper is blue. A question came up a work. If the better last longer are they wearing the rotors faster? Thanks for the help,MDR.
If you can't find anything loose with the front end up, my suggestion is to pull the wheels off and try again. The reason is because the wheels themselves are kind of hard to horse around sometimes, and with more exposed you can inspect bushings, tie-rod ends, and other things that you can't see with the wheels on.
Try rotating the wheels with the truck in four-wheel, see what kind of play there is between the two sides. If necessary - let one side down and try this.
You don't get a noise or a vibration like that unless something is bad enought to spot something....
Don't give up until you find it!
It seems kinda wierd - but also look at your MOTOR MOUNTS.
