i know this is a for truck forum but... i have a 1997 mercury sable and i cannot figure out how to replace the parking light. it is under the same plastic lens as the headlight. i can't get the headlight assembly out of the vehicle or think of another way to get it out.

please help me guys.. i'm countin' on you

 

From the 97 Service CD for the Sable:


Sable


Removal

1. Note: The front park lamp is part of the headlamp assembly. Refer to «Headlamp Assembly» as described for service.

Remove screw from front park lamp.

2. Pull front park lamp away from grille opening, push front turn signal lamp (13368) toward center of grille and remove from vehicle.

3. Lift tabs on front turn signal lamp connector and pull connector away from front turn signal lamp socket and wiring.

4. Turn lamp socket 1/2 turn counterclockwise and pull out of front park lamp housing.

5. Gently pull miniature bulb (13465) out of lamp socket and wiring.


Installation

1. Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.

Headlamp Assembly


Removal

1. WARNING: THE REPLACEABLE HALOGEN HEADLAMP BULB CONTAINS GAS UNDER PRESSURE. THE HALOGEN HEADLAMP BULB MAY SHATTER IF THE GLASS ENVELOPE IS SCRATCHED OR THE HALOGEN HEADLAMP BULB IS DROPPED. HANDLE HALOGEN HEADLAMP BULB CAREFULLY. GRASP HALOGEN HEADLAMP BULB ONLY BY ITS PLASTIC BASE. AVOID TOUCHING GLASS ENVELOPE. KEEP HALOGEN HEADLAMP BULB OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.

Position headlamp switch (11654) and headlamp time delay switch in the OFF position.

2. Remove three bolts retaining headlamp assembly to upper support assembly and loosen pinch bolt. Remove headlamp assembly from vehicle.

3. Remove park lamp bulb and socket (Sable only) and headlamp bulb and socket from headlamp assembly as described.


Installation

1. Follow removal procedure in reverse order.

2. Push headlamp assembly firmly rearward, seating against upper radiator support assembly while tightening retaining bolts to 6-9 N-m (54-79 lb-in).

3. Aim headlamp (13008) as described.
