I have found a few boxes of oil filters that i can get for next to nothing because he has no use for them. They are in an old warehouse that used to be storage for a oil/lube station or w/e. I have a 79 f 150 4x4 with a 400. The filters are mostly old ac delco duraguards. I was wondering what the part number would be that would fit my motor. The catalog for ac delco and motorcraft are not there anymore. I found some that had the part number of PF20 and it says among the vehicles it would fit are ford, lincoln, mercury (exc. 1.6, 2.0, 2.8) 58-85. So according to this is should work for my motor correct? At there website it says PF2 fits and they dont have anything about PF20 so maybe same filter just older and different part number? The Wix cross reference number is 51608 when i have been getting 51515 if i remember correctly. Also there is a box of motorcraft FL-820 "long life" oil filters. What do these fit? I dont think they are for my motor. They are a little shorter than the ac delco pf20 but that is the only visual difference and they are still close in tallness. Any help on the part #'s that would work from ac delco duraguard filters or motorcraft long life filters would help. Thanks
Josh, the FL820s fit the 4.6L Ford V8, and 5.4 v8 Ford. They are a little shorter, because they are used in some Mustang and Thunderbird applications, where space is an issue.. The FL820s will not fit your 400 CI FoMoCo powerplant, because I beleive the threads are different. The PF2 AC Delco oil filter will fit your Ford 400, however. It is a direct replacement for the Motorcraft FL1A, Napa/ Wix 51515 etc. I beleive the PH20 AC Delco filter is the 1/2 quart "short" Ford filter. Don't take that to the bank, as I am not 100% sure. I will try and find what the PF20 fits, and I'll respond ASAP, or I am sure someone here will read your post on Sunday or Monday and know the answer. ED
PS As long as the oil filters were stored in a clean, dry, location, I think the filter media should be okay. If the filter box looks warped, from damp or humid conditions, then TallPaul's concerns would be something to think about for full-term oil change intervals. Also, look for rust spots, deposits, on the filter's metal base too.
I cross referenced the numbers with wix's site and i think you are correct about the pf20. it is the same as the pf2 (51515 etc) except it is about 3/4" shorter. So i should be able to use this and it will be fine correct? the gasket, diameter and everything else is exactly the same so it should be fine i assume. If it is i will have a life time supply of oil filters. I dont think they were any pf2's but i will have to double check i guess. I wish there were the correct motorcrafts but all they had were the long life fl-820's
