Steering Linkage Clearance
I will have problems with the steering linkage clearing the left engine motor mount bracket. (See pictures in my gallery, "motor install")
Option seems to be to modify gusset on mount bracket so steering can pass through it. Stock exhaust manifolds and steering column clear OK, I mounted motor approx 1 1/4 right of centre.
Anyone encounterd this ; any alternate solutions ?

My 56 runs a 351C and MII IFS. My steering goes thru the left side motor mount. The mount is a formed tube that goes on a radius from shock tower to cross member with the mount plates attached to it. Sounds like your idea would work.
Try mocking up a true length steering column (seat in, some sort of steering wheel , perhaps and addional 4 inches or so for steering wheel adapter and a 30 or 32 inch column length) in a position that fits your driving style. Then run a dowel rod approx 3/4 inch dia from column to gear (with out the joints it will only be close but that will work). If you can make a solid bar work that would be great if not then cut where you think an additional joint will be needed. Now see what you have to do to get a engine mount installed around the new steering intermediate shaft.
That all said, your right make the engine mount clear the steering intermediate shaft.

I mocked up steering and mounts, will post picture.
I am definitely going to need to modify the left mount to accomodate the steering passing directly through it.
