I've read some of the other threads that deal with some of my problems but I still have one big nagging problem. For starters I am working on a F-250 w/ the 5.8L. It is registered as a 1984; but matches up better with a 1983's wiring diagram in a Haynes manual. I just got it running again after replacing my 4th starter solenoid, they like to melt on the starter side. The starter check out fine when we bench tested it at Autozone. Anyways it still has a hard time turning over every 3 or 4 tries. After hooking the ignition module back up that my buddy took out. I still have 2 wires with no apparent place to hook them up on the motor. And to more come out of a connecter with no apparent source from the motor. It ran fine for awhile then just died after alittle sputtering so I figured it had a bad fuel guage and went to get a gas can and added a couple dollars to the tank. But all it does is turn over and sputter after a couple seconds of turning it over. Alternator is brand new and was tested before we left the parts store. I am going crazy cause it ran fine now it just stopped and sputters when you try to turn it over. I tried starting fluid even and it just acts as if it was flooded.HELP Someone PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!
I'm assuming you are talking about the starter relay on the right inner fender, when you say 4 solenoids. You may very well have a bad starter-even though it shows good [COLD]on the bench. Many will heat up and draw too much current. The other possibility-Internal corrosion in cable.Next time it happens, pull the coil wire and see if it cranks normal-if so, timing too far advanced.
Thanks I'll try that. I'm also picking up a engine wiring harness for about $45 at a local salvage yard. That way I'll be able to insure everything is hooked up right. I'll probably grab some of the electronics while I am there also.
