Sorry if it has been asked before, but what is going to replace it?
As of right now we still fit into my Bronco, but I was planning on getting an Excursion mid next year to better accomodate us. But I guess only used ones will be available by that time.
Hi aurgathor,
Well the scuttlebutt is that Ford is planning to make an extended version of the Expedition that will replace the Excursion. I don't think anyone really knows for sure at this point, but that's what "rumor control" seems to think.
My question to Ford is an "extended Expedition"...isn't that the Excursion???

I don't know why they would think a stretched Expedition could be a replacement for an Excursion. With that puny 1/2 ton chassis, it's not what I want.
Why does wanting to drive a large capacity truck have to be considered a crime?
Not sure why some people are so fed up with the Excursion -- other than one having a bed, and one having an enclosed place, what's really *that* different between a fullsize longbed pickup and an Excursion? In any case, I think the Expedition is just a yuppified F150 while the Excursion is based on the F250, so a stretched Expedition isn't going to be, or even like an Excursion. And at this moment, there aren't very many SUVs available with diesel in the US. (that might change soon, though)

THANK YOU!!!
That's exactly my reasoning when I got the excursion! I had a choice between getting a full size crew cab long bed pickup and the Excursion...but then I started thinking about what "extras" I would have to do to the truck (spray in bedliner, topper or camper shell, etc.) and thought "now if I have a crew cab pickup with a shell...that's an Excursion but without the third seat and heat in ther back end!" So that's what I bought - an Excursion!
Let's reserve our judgement of the "Grand Expedition" until after we see it. The current F-150 with the Heavy-Duty Payload package comes within 100 lbs (either side) of the 250's payload and trailer-tow capacities. I'm not saying this new vehicle is the ideal replacement for the Excursion, but Ford just might surprise us with its capabilities, especially if they slip a diesel into the thing.

Jeff:
I certainly will withhold a final judgment until I see the thing, but even with the HD chassis package, it's not going to be a Super Duty. Do you know if the HD chassis package still comes with independent rear suspension? I didn't buy my Excursion for the ride.
I don't know, just is I finally found a vehicle that has all the practically that I need, and that I fit in comfortably. My Excursion is the only vehicle that I have ever owned that I can comfortably drive with my seat in something other than all the way to the rear.

The thing I specifically disliked about the Expedition a friend has is ground clearance. With the 4th kid on its way we can't really have a truck as we need more interior room than trucks, or even my Bronco has. And with the current gas price forecast, anything less than a diesel in a new car of that size is not a viable option.
Well personally-speaking, I am not too worried about what will replace the Excursion...after all I have two of them already so I am good in that respect! I am curious as to what Ford feels will fill the gap and I hope something does - I remember when the Chvey Suburban had a monopoly on the large SUV market and I'd hate to see it come to that again.
Heavnbound kind of states exactely what I was thinking. I can't see Ford just giving up its share of the HD SUV market. Thats why, personally, I don't buy into the extended Expedition. I believe that they will come up with some kind of 3/4 ton SUV. If not, their marketing analysts should be fired.
Before I got my used 2000 Excursion my wife and I looked a CHevy dealership and asked a few questions...only because my wife grew up with Suburbans and she really wanted one. I promised her that if they had a Duramax Burb..I would buy one. Well, from what they said there is none yet, but Cheby is slated to start rolling out Duramax burbs sometime late this coming fall. I hope that my next Diesel will be a Ford, but if not it looks like the Burb may have us covered.

There has been no word yet from GM on putting the Dmax in the next Suburban, only rumors. In fact, most rumors are that the 2007 Suburban will not get the Dmax. GM does not have a lot of excess Dmax engine capacity.
From GMinsidenews.com:
Silverado Line- 2005 is a carryover year for the Silverado. In 2006, there is a good chance that GM will offer a nearly 400HP version of the 6.0L LS2 in a standard cab, shortbed Silverado SS. After that, the aging Silverado line will get a redesign in 2007 (GMT-900). Expect the usual increases in chassis strength, towing ability, and interior quality. Expect Chevy's current scowling look to look more "big rig" a.k.a Dodge Ram An optional 7.5L V10 powertrain will be added.
* * *
Tahoe/Suburban - The Tahoe, Suburban, and Silverado designs are closely tied together. Like the Silverado expect more butch (Dodge Ram) styling, improved chassis dynamics, and a much revised interior. Expect to see the new Tahoe before the new Silverado in 2006 or 2007.
I have both the diesel suburban and the v10 EX and I plan to keep both. I have too much money tied into my 6.5L turbo diesel to sell but I wanted something newer, reliable and less smelly for my wife (the truck not me). I will keep the sub for work stuff till it rots out then put it out to the back-40 for another 15 years then maybe I'll sell it.I think my wife really enjoys the new EX when she is not driving her saturn ION. Rumor is that the suburban may come with a smaller diesel or possibly the d-max without the allison transmission for it will not clear the underbody without lifting it a couple of inches. Just Rumors I have heard from the diesel GM diesel page.
