Exactly, the front end of the suburban would have to be totally redone in order to accomodate the Duramax AND the Allison transmission. There isn't just one type of Allison transmission, there's one for the 8.1 gas V8 and one for the Duramax. The one for the Duramax just happens to be bigger. So rather than spend the money redesigning for just one engine option, they left well enough alone. Even if they did redesign it for the Duramax, it would probably be too pricey for buyers when the time came to sell it. Otherwise the 'burb would have inherited the Duramax when it debuted late 2000 early 2001.

Oh I bet they will, look what happened to the Taurus. They killed it and replaced it with something better for about the same price.
