are you talking about compression ratios? the stock idi's have 21.5-1 compression ratios, but if you want to add a turbo, you need a lower compression ratio the powerstrokes have a 17.5-1 ratio, and they will hold up to 30 psi boost easily. the stick 21.5-1 ratio of the idi will hold up to about 15 psi boost. what do yuo mean you are taking it to the shop and having it checked out??? what's wrong with it?
my motor has 340,000 miles on it, an i just ut a turbo off 5.9 cummins on it. i make 15 psi boost and run her at 4,000 rpm's alot. i also have 4.10 rear which means the motor has turned considerably more than a more common diesle with 3.55's your motor can't be worn out bad enough that a turbo will effectively shorten the life of the motor. if it don't bang and clang, it will be fine
those engines were made to be turboed in more ways then one, it stucks that ford didn't put them in.......I want to turbo mine, but it'll be 3700 bucks in Azusa to get a turbo from Banks installed
The ATS turbo is a sweet setup as well, plus it fit's better. However getting one in sol california is completely a different story due to the fact that the Banks HQ is here in Azusa. And to be honest i plain on putting that much into the truck, the powerstokes are nice but, i like my truck and it only has 120k miles .
hehe you know it! But to be honest I watched a step by step photo installation of it and i don't want to do it. I would be afraid to even touch it :-/
don't get me wrong i enjoy working on my truck but this is much to major for my skills.
