I posted this on the exhaust page but didnt get any replys....
Does anyone use Gibson Exhaust system on there 2005 V-10?
Im looking for a good exhaust system, which system do you think, I'm looking for more power and a great sound. I was thinking about installing duals any ideas? how do they sound with the V-10? Im looking for a deep tone.
Anyone use flowmasters? Do they sound better than Gibson?
Thanks again ~Gage~
You will never get that good sound you are looking for, the Gibson is super quiet, better off with the Flowmater. You won't get any more power from a exhaust system, the stock system on the '05's is pretty good stock, I would take the muffler off and call it good. I had to takethe muffler and cat off my truck to get a decent sound and to be able to hear it.
Check out my screen name and look up some of my musings on the 2005 3 valve V10
You need not get all spend crazy untill you get that beauty home and broke in... I bet you will come back and not ask too many Tim Taylor (more power arr, arr, arr) questions.
The best you can do with the 3Valve V10 in the exhaust department is swap out the nice and quiet GIANT free flowing muffler for a little noisy one. These V10 will never sound like a deep throaty growling 460 V8... to many power pulses per second.
Once you look under an old school v10 then climb under the 05 new daddy you will see what I mean...Ford had to get those new Horses from some where and they did a lot of it under the truck.
And once you get all broke in and ripping the tires off at 3/4 throttle is too pedestrian for you, then we can talk tuners and intakes and exhaust and blowers and all sorts of ways to spend your money!
Fredvon4, I know im going crazy on my new turck I have to learn to slow down =o)
Anyway, I think im going to leave my exhaust the way it comes.
Thanks again ~Gage~

SMiller you say CAT as in 1? my 00 has 4 and if they get removed i'm under the impression the service engine light would come on. I just today installed a flowmaster 50 series and am very dissapointed with the sound. Barely nothing differnt, any ideas i want it loud?
You should post a signature with info on what you own and why you are under the impression that there are 4 catylitic converters on it.
On the 2005 V10 there are definatly two cats and BOTH of them have O2 sensors before and after the cat....making 4 O2 sensors.
If your 2000 year F250 or F350 superduty truck has a V10 motor then I bet there is only one catylitic converter and 2 O2 senors one on each exhaust bank on the "y" pipe before the cat. Bad O2 sensors will throw a code. Removing a catylitic converter that is between two O2 sensors will also throw a code. Removing a catylitic converter that is after the O2 sensors is just illegal but will no way effect the codes or harm performance. But if you are in a sniff test state you will no longer pass inspection.
You want loud?
Get on Ebay and get a set of headers, have them piped in 3 inch all the way to the second cross member and stop... I promis you it will be very loud!
The '99 through '04 Super Duty's had one big cat and there were no O2 sensors around it, that huge cat takes all the noise away, you can put a strait pipe on these things and not make any noise, I put on a Flowmaster 40 series with dual 3in. pipes and couldn't hardly hear it, took that big cat off and now it is perfect, has that famous Flowmaster sound, nice and deep, not to loud.
The guys screen name is TenPlugs, I can only guess he has a V-10 SD, must be a '05, but even those have only two, the only truck I know of is the F-150's....
Guys i'm telling you my 00 V10 SD CC MT SB has 4 cats and thats the way it came from ford i had it up on the lift yesterday to put the flowmaster on. sorry abut the sig. Any way my buddy tells me that if a take any of the cats off i'll get an iinefficiency code 420 or 400 somethin. the setup goes as follows: exhaust man, cat, o2 sensor, cat, ypipe, muffler both sides are the same. you guys are saying if i remove the cats after the sensor i will get no codes? IL. does sniff test but only idle test for superduty's will it still not pass, allthough i do have 2 years till my next test hmmmmmmm.
I must apologize for my previous comments, today i put it back up on the lift and low and behold 1 cat(I must have been picturing my ranger what an idiot). Any who i removed the cat and installed a piece of pipe and with the 50 series previously installed it made a difference but only around 2400rpms and then it sounds kinda tinny. Any other ideas like should i install the 40 series or possibly shorten the tail pipe to dump before the tires, I prefer not to install headers at this point? any help would appreciated and i wont argue any more.
Chris
00 V10 SD CC MT SB 4.30 used to have 1 cat not 4
I am sure glad you did a second post because I was either going to rip your butt apart for not knowing what a catylitic converter was or ask you to get us more info on your unique Ford specialty vehicle... BTW Ford does test new systems in low quantities on non comercial owners.
Chevy does it also... I never heard of a wierd Dodge truck configuration.
If you really just want sound you have to play around with pipe diameter and length.
If you are searching for performance, get the Louisiana boy, Z71 killer to show you the way. He has done all the experimenting and came up with a winning HP and Sound configuration that I can't argue about and everybody here knows I love to argue!
