WITH ALL IN HAND HOW MUCH TROUBLE WOULD IT BE TO CHANGE FROM FI TO CARB I KNOW THAT I WILL NEED TO CHANGE OUT THE INTAKE BUT WHAT OTHER THINGS DO I NEED TO THINK ABOUT?
Changing the intake is the first part of it, after that you need a fuel pressure regulator because the electronic fuel pump is way too much for a carb. i don't remember the psi its supposed to operate at...but you need one of these...then its just pretty much bolt everything on, and go cruising.
never thought of the tranny it's and 85 will i need to change that out? As for the distributor I'm thinking of changing over to a One piece ignition with the coil and module inside the cap like the chevys pretty easy set up one wire. Thanks for all the help I'm getting here I'm sure I'll be back in a day or two for more help.
yes the tranny is an over drive and it's a 1985, so what do you mean when you say just hook up the linkage correct?
please let me know because I'm starting to change my mind about doing all this and buying a nother truck 89 f-250 4x4 this is what is making me think
the linkage they are talking about is the T.V. linkage (throttle valve) it moves with the throttle plates to schedule when/how the transmission shifts. I had a holley 600 4bbl. and bought a kit from summit raceing for around 40 bucks. look at the bauman engineering web site (forgot the www address) they explain how to do this. if you dont hook up the T.V. linkage it will drive poorly for about 2 blocks and then weld the clutch packs together. but dont be scared to do this. just read up on the subject before you tear into the project and you will get great results.
I CURRENTLY HAVE AN 86 I JUST DID THIS....I AM HAVING SHIFT PROBLEMS.....DID YOU GET IT DONE? PLEASE HELP...THE TRUCK RUNS AWESOME....SHIFTING SUX...HELP.
