You can spend BIG $$$ on one or you can modify your EBPV to function as an exhaust brake for a few $ and about an hours time. All you have to be able to do is solder and tell colored wires apart.
Here are some instructions: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=334585

Someone told me about a jake brake, I know what it does but where can I find one, are they $$$$, and are they easy to put on?
The reason you are not able to find a "jake" for the 7.3 is because one does not exist . What everyone is refering to is an exhaust brake , and although worth doing is not as effective ( or sound as good ) as a jake brake . The jake is a compression brake and works on the valve train by opening the exhaust valves , the noise you hear is the release of the air from the cylinders .
Yes, the EBPV brake will work with an auto, however, you may want to look into the mod to lock the torque converter on command as well, to keep tranny temps down.
If you use my set up you only need to send a wire from the same switch used to power the EBPV to the power side of the converter with another rectifier diode.
so the idea is to getthe torque converter to "lock up"? I'm hazy on how auto tranys work nevre had one till the truck and even then I was looking fo a stick, but oh well? but any way ,, Ineet to get the canverter to lock? thanks J
