Dealer Packages

One of the reasons I bought my truck from the dealer I used was that they didn't try to sell me all the "Dealer Add-ons" that some of the others were.

Of course, I got the pitch for about 5 of these last night. I know, they're just doing their job, but I couldn't help but feel a little perturbed at some of the things they were selling.

The major thing that stood out was the "glass etching". To act a a deterrent to theives, a registration number is etched into each large piece of glass. I fail to see how that is going to prevent someone from stealing a vehicle. The only thing it provides is a kickback to you and your dealer in the event it is stolen and not recovered.

Also, the list had "Ford Silver Remote Starter" for $595. I asked how that compared with the Gold unit and was told the silver does everything (rather abruptly).

The "acid-rain protection package" was something the other dealers were pushing up front. Doesn't anyone use wax anymore?

Finally, the sales manager insisted that my truck did not have a block heater installed (but would install it for $350).

When I bought my Bullitt, I had to go through that crap. Scotchgard, paint sealant, you name it. I think this was the second of three people that I had to go through at the time of purchase that made all these attractive offers for add ons Person three was the finance guy I only went through this because they were the only ones I could find to sell me the car at X Plan.

I didn't have to go through three people when I bought my truck. As I recall, I wasn't told what a poor decision I had made by skipping the Scothgard either Matter of fact, I don't think the guy put me through a single sales pitch

Rip[off

The block heater is a $35 factory add-on. I live in Alaska where things are expensive and it doesn't cost over $50 for the largest heater and you can get it put on for 1/2 hr labor. Boy these sleeze-***** have no scruples.
