Hood is a '52 I believe. Cab is 51 or 52 as they are the same. Bed is a 51 or 52 you can tell by looking at the side. Let the guys check your vin number for the exact year. might want to check the title vin to the vin on the truck. You know its like my truck was, its a good start now its up to you to make out of it what you want. The truck has lots of potential, just plan on twice as long as you thought and twice the money you planned to spend and that should be close to reality.

I agree with everything you guys have said.....and your right about the title reading 98RC..... But The the vin plates under the hood And in the glove box both say FIRINR12283

The plot thickens - looks like you have a F1 V8 '51 made in Norfolk, VA unit number 12283.
(actually I screwed up the sample vin - I meant to type F1R2..... for a 1952)
Funny, cause your grill panel is definitely '52 - the holes below the hood where the letters F O R D go identify it. Cool part and frustrating part is the '48 thru '52 F1 thru F6 stuff all interchanges. Most trucks have had something swapped over the years.
Evenin all,
Ive got to tell you, I met JetJock today and saw his truck Its a great ride and coming along nicely.I can't wait to see it finished. More importantly though Bill is a great guy with lots of good advice and helpful ideas. He also introduced me to My NEW chasis guy LOL. Who in turn helped Me find My chasis and a clip so I can now get started on This project. THANK YOU BIll.
I also found out that I can and WILL make the nationals in may so Im looking forward to meeting some of you and seeing your Rides and getting lots of good (hopefully) advice and definatly lots of opinions LOL.
And last but not least I have decided on the basic direction My truck is going to take stylewise.
And Im in the market for a set of fenders (front and Rear) from just about anything from late 30s to early 40s.specifically like those on a 37 stude. so if anyone gets a line on any such animal please shout.
The upper grill panel of your truck is from a '51. It has the two bolt holes for a V8 emblem that Ford put there on '51 model years only. In '52 the V8 went on the front hood trim. Your front hood trim is from a '52 because where the V8 is located and it only has 2 "nostrils". The '51 trim has 3 "nostrils". Additionally, the hood side trim is from a '51. In '52 both ends of this trim were pointed and had an additional circular trim to denote the model of the truck (F1-F8). In '51 the trim was square on one end.
Your cab is also from a deluxe cab styled truck. It has the chrome glass channel, chrome went windows and an attachment for the armrests on the inside of the doors. Your windshield weatherstrip should also have a small inciseon (sp?) for a stanless trim. However, your hood is not from a deluxe cab truck as it does not have the extra trim pieces around the current side trim.
It was very common to interchange parts in the olden days to whatever fit.
I own a '51 and '52 Panel trucks and could spot the interchanged parts immediately. The hood on my '52 was from a '51. I had to drill additional holes to mount the circular trim.
What caught my eye (being a '51-'52 guy) is the grille panel between the headlights. Maybe it's the picture angle, but what are the pieces that surround the radiator? Are they custom? Almost look like something from an F-4 or bigger. There is no grille/headlight bar, so maybe this is custom?
I guess you east coast guys are used to that much rust; I feel for you Slaughter!
You guys have been great with all the info.
The details for Identifying the truck very helpful .
Its a good thing its gonna be a full on custom because when its finished youll never know by looking What year it started as lol.
Ross Im not sure about the panels around the radiator but Ill take a look in the light and see if I can figure it out.
With the change of fenders the grill will end up being a complete custom job in the end anyway.
