Cool help needed please uk explorer

Hi everybody please help me if you can, i own a 4.0l v6 1997/8 explorer 5 door and have been plagued with a few minor glitches but none so annoying as the cam chain adjuster mechanism (i am sure this is what is causing the annoying death rattle ).According to a number of members this problem has been dealt with under a general recall in america and canada but not the uk. Ford europe and ford Uk keeep telling me and a number of british owners that the 'english' models were not affected by this recall or fault as they were built on a different production line ,im not so sure and think thats why im getting the run around being passed from pillar to post.Ford us told me they recognise the problem and say it is down to ford uk to implement the recalls so do ford canada, whats going on? i ask .
Can any one find out for me if at all possible where my explorer was built and if it was the same factory/production line as the us vehicles as ford uk do not seem to want to talk to me on this issue.if anyone can help or point me in the right direction i would be very grateful my vin tag no. is1FMDU34E0VZC25529
AND THE BUILD DATE IS 17/7/1997.

thanks in advance

According to this site: https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenan...ls/default.asp

your truck was built in St Louis MO, USA. Therefore, I would think it would be subject to any USA based recalls.
I also looked your vin up on my carfax account and it came back with no records, which I assume indicates it was never titled in USA. It was probably built and shipped directly out of the USA.

Hope this helps, let us know how you make out on this.

Mike

marragtop:thanks

thanks for your reply mike and the information will be handy, what i really wanted to know is would my explorer if it was in the us (although it was made for and shipped directly to the uk) would it come under the campaign 00m12 this recall was only for explorers that were made in a particular plant and im not so sure that the st louis plant is the one ..it was also restricted to the 4.0l v6 sohc if it is the louis plant then i cant see why the vehicle that i have would be no different to its US brothers (other than the steering column being on the opposite side and a few trim modifications.and therefore would expect ford to extend the same courtesy to its uk market. but as i said nobody at ford uk wants to talk to me just sending me around in ever extending circles ,,,moving away from the issue not addressing it.Thanks again mike by the way hows the weather? (only kidding, not all limeys talk about the climate all the time).

cheers and thanks

Here's another site where you can get recall info, although I suspect you already have this info.

Hi Nick,im also a uk explorer owner same year as yours.I had the same trouble as you with the cam tensioner, but mine went bang,i needed a new engine,i asked ford at the time about the recall on the cam chain tensioner, they told me like you it didnt apply in the uk !!!! .I find my local ford dealer has no idea about working on my car. There is a problem with my gearbox, which started as soon as i left the garage after the new engine, they dont know whats wrong with it and quoted me for a new gearbox !!.Let me know how you get on as i will try and get a refund for £3500 i spent on the bloody thing.

Cheers Mossy
