I have a new '05 F350 C.C. long bed. It has a computer that tells you what mpg you are getting. I has been slightly getting better. It was 9 when I got it and now it is up to 13.8. I have 2275 miles on it now. For the last 3 fill ups if I do the pencil to paper I am getting 15.4-16.6mpg NOT 13.8. Whats up with this stupid thing. On average I fill up after going 470 miles , and it takes 29 gallons to fill her up. That is 16.2mpg. I can put another 1 1/2 gallons in for a total of 31 gallons. That alone is 14.9mpg. How long does this computer take before it can do simple math?
I will fill till it pops off. Then put another gallon in or to the nearest whole dollar. Same station, level ground. Same gallons put in about 30 gallons each time.
Normally the mileage computer reads higher than actual mileage. It is also cumulative if you don't reset it. Sounds like truck was idled a lot before you picked it up. The longer you drive before resetting it the longer it takes for the reading to change. I have not reset mine and have almost 5,000 miles on truck. It reads 19.2 but actual is in the 18.5 range.
Try resetting the computer when you fill it and check the mileage on that tank. While it is displaying the mileage hold both buttons until the mileage changes to 0. Now it's reset.
Which two buttons. Evary time I fill up I turn off the truck, fill up, and I hit the reset button. It has been resetting the trip milage. I thought it was resetting everything,
Maybe the '05's are different. I have a power moon roof so my buttens are on the dash next to the 4X4 switch. I have three buttons. I have info/setup/reset.
I think on the 05s they have moved the display to the instrument panel whether you have a sun roof or not. I haven't tried it with the mpg but with the trip mileage I just hit the info button and when mileage displayed hit reset with engine running.
