Is the moonroof a dealer-installed item or does it come from the factory installed? I am planning to get a new F-150 at the end of the '05 model run and hopefully take advantage of year end inventory selloffs. But, I really want to have a moonroof (done by Ford and not take a chance with a custom shop). Ideally I would like to get a year end truck and have the moonroof installed but covered under the warranty umbrella of Ford. Otherwise, I might have to bite the bullet and order a '06 with the moonroof already in from the factory. I noticed that none of the trucks at my local dealer had a moonroof right from the factory leading me to question how to go about getting one. I really have a hesitant feeling about having any custom shop cut up a new FX4. Also, any problems been noted with the factory units? Thanks for taking the time to offer your input. Dave.
I had a Moonroof in my 04 and when I ordered my 05 that is the first option I put down . I think a factory moonroof installed afterwards would cost $$$$ for labour. I like the way the moonroof lights up the cab, the nice airflow in the vent position, and when the weather is right, wide open cruising. Wrench.
I have the moonroof, and I love it. Also, mine was a "left over" 04. I still cant believe that I found this truck towards the end, in the left over pile. I guess no one wanted it with a bench seat. Its the perfect truck. It has EVERYTHING I want, except for backup sensors, which I can live without.
I got the factory roof, it's great, and I wouldn't go any other way. However, you should know that the moonroof means you don't get the overhead storage rails, and if you want a DVD player (I didn't) you'll have to go for an aftermarket unit. But the light coming in the moonroof makes this truck feel different than any truck I've driven previously.
Bought my truck in August 04 It's a bright red screw xlt. Has just about every option you can get on an xlt. That being said it does have the factory power moon roof. I have to say I like it alot. So far so good no leaks to date. I agree with prior posts it does give the truck a different feel.
Mine is the same situation as WheelMa1: Left over 04 SCREW, Lariat, bench seat (which I wanted) with a moonroof. Could not believe I got it when inventory was so low. It drives like a dream ... Love the moon roof. BUT ... I got the back up sensor
I love my moon roof too. The only thing I don't like about is that it doesn't automatically go back to the set position. You kind of have to eyeball it. It's not that hard when your driving down the road because you can listen for wind noise but when I'm parked I have to stand on my step to make sure it's closed.
ford-man22, thats what i thought, but if you hold down the button all the way until it closes, it automatically stops when its closed all the way. try it out
DUDE,THANKS A LOT. I always felt like a jack a#^ in a parking lot looking at the roof of my truck to see if it closed all the way. Now I'll use it more often. Thanks again man!!

I think dealers tend to order trucks equipped the same. Check out another dealer and all of their Lariats or FX4's might have a factory moonroof. I think it is a awesome feature, but make sure you get a power rear slider with it. I always open it with the moonroof otherwise the wind noise is horrible.
