Taillights both out and nowhere in the book
does it say the fuse location. My parts guy of
25 years has no clue. Where is the fuse for the
taillights on my 97 mazda truck.
thanks in advance
steve
Isn't there a fuse map on the cover to the fuse panel inside the truck and the fuse box in the engine compartment. There is on mine. You are not the first to ask this, I am just surprised. Check the owner's manual as well. If you do not have one try this link. It is for the Ford Ranger, but my understanding is that it is the same truck.
That is a good suggestion. Ive read the entire manual
with no mention of taillights but didnt check the inside
of the fuse panel cover. My buddy with an f-150 says
his manual makes no mention of fuses for the back lights
either.
Look in your owners manual under fuses. There should be a fuse map there. They may not call them tail lights. Might be called runnign lights or something similar. I suspect it shares the fues with a few other items. Are any other lights out? May not be a fuse, may be a cut wire or a bad ground. Any chance that both bulbs are burned out?

Nowhere in the owners manual or on the fuse page does it mention
running lights. It isnt parking lights. Ive read the whole manual over
and even pulled some fuses that may have been it and tried. Surely
there is a fuse for them. Im waiting on a call back from the mechanic
at the local Mazda Dealer. THeir parts man couldnt even help.
Even if they both burned out together there has to be a fuse.
THe parking lights are like the yellow lights on the side.
Yes, the back up lights are out too. Ive fixed that
fuse before. It was a bitch to find though. The brake lights work fine.
Mazda didnt call back though I called twice.
Is there like a mazda 800 # or something.
Maybe even Ford has the info as the ranger is the
same vehicle, right?
This may sound like alot of work but there aren't many fuses in there. Check-em one by one. That will eliminate that problem. You can tell if they are burned if the element metal element in the plastic is borken. Maybe your problem is something else. Do the license plate lights work? Have you checked the bulbs like Texan2004 suggested?
The tail lights should be on the same circuit since it activated by the same switch that operates the parking lights. In other words, it's on when the parking lights are on and off when the parking lights are off. At least I would think so.
Good idea to check the lic plate lights as suggested in previous post. They should also be on the same circuit. If the license plates light is out you know the problem is up stream. If they are working, the problem is most likely at the rear of the vehicle.
You mentioned a problem with the back-up lights. Was that an issue in the rear of the vehicle at the lights or was it at the tranny switch?
