I have dont alot to my I-6 engine and no matter what i cant get it running right, plus i noticed the other day im getting a little blue smoke (20W-50 oil now in ) anyways...... I just sent my 65 Ford F-100 to the junk yard, before i sent it i took out the 352 BB engine (30,000 miles) with its 4 speed tranny and remote mounted transfer case.... how could i mount this engine in my 84 F-150 4x4? I would like to keep my stock trans in my truck and stock transfer could i swap bellhousings or something?
Anyways is the FE engines are out of picture what else could i put in? I would love to have a 460 - but what would i need to modify? if not my nighbor has a 5.0 pulled out of a 86 Lincon, it looks just like the motor in my friends 5.0 (90) mustang GT, would this work? it was pulled out of a Automatic car.....
If not what have you guys replaced your 300's with, how hard was it, discripptions help to
The 5.0/302 swap can be done as well as a 5.8/351w swap. The bellhousings match your 300 6 and they were original options for that type of frame. I think you have to get some motor mount perches for the frame though. The 460 can be swapped in too, but the bellhousing is not a match. The old motor you have was never offered in this style truck and would be a custom installation from the start.
I can't say for the 352, but Franklin is right on the I-6 to 302/351W swap. I've nearly finished mine, just waiting on a pulley and brackets to arrive. A word of caution, whichever way you decide to go, research the swap THOROUGHLY. I got enough info to tell me I wanted the 351W to replace my I-6, but didn't check into all the changes I'd need to make. It seems like every time I put one part on I found two more that didn't fit and back to the store I go. To change the I-6 to a 351W you have to change motor mounts and perches, flywheel (your clutch and pressure plate should be fine though), radiator and brackets, exhaust, and of course belts and hoses. If the 351 you get doesn't come with brackets and pulleys like mine didn't you will need them too and they haven't been that easy to find for me. It's been frustrating cause it's taking so long, but if I had done my homework ahead of time the swap would have been done by now.
