questionable heads
i went to the scrap yard today and found some 302 heads with the # E6SE. i know that is an 86 head and they arent very desirable but the chambers look a lot smaller then my 78 heads. they are tear drop shaped and i wondered if anyone knew the cc of them. i think they might be 62 cc but im not sure. are they worth cleaning up, porting and swapping them on my 302 with 69 cc heads? according to my caculations this would raise comp by 1-1.25 points. any info will help..... thanks
please list the pros and cons vs. other stock 302 heads

The E6SE heads are from a 1986 Thunderbird 5.0 SO motor. According to the specs I have is as follows:
150HP @3400rpm - 270lb Torq @2000rpm - 8.9:1 Comp ratio - 69cc Chambers.
The heads for the 5.0L in '86 were the redesigned "high swirl" cylinder heads (E6SE casting type). 1987-1995 H.O. motors used truck casting wedge cylinder heads with larger ports and valves, ( casting # E7TE-AA ). They provided an approximate 15 hp increase over the S.O. (E6SE) heads. The S.O. 5.0 used the E6SE heads through '91, while the H.O. engine only used them in '86. The E6 Heads are known for providing one of the broadest torque bands, especially from an engine with only a 3" stroke.
So if your looking for low rpm torque and fuel economy use the E6 heads, if want a little extra HP and don't mind sacrificing a little torque use the E7 heads. The general vote on these heads are, they are junk don't use them. If you try to use a larger than stock cam you run into valve clearance issues. If you really want so nice heads for your 302 use the GT-40Y heads.
Hope this helped.
