302 rebuild options
down the driver's side: 90-(90, but drops to 0 immediately) - 90 - 90
down the passenger side: 100-100-60-100
Obviously, the engine's seeing some seroius wear. Going down the freeway at 2200 rpms or so, I get between 15-20 pounds of oil pressure.
As I see it: I basically have 3 options. One is to rebuild the engine completely. New pistons, bearings, cam, clean the heads up, and replace the timing chain. Two is to find a wrecked Ford vehicle with a 5.0 and rip everythign out of it related to the engine, swap it in to the Jeep, and go from there. Today, I did a junkyard search and found a yard about an hour away that has a number of 1994 truck 5.0 blocks for a good price. This brings up my latest idea
If I can get one of these blocks which shoudl stilll be in good shape, what woudl it take to swap the rest of the parts from my '72 engine on to it? As long as i'm replacing things i'd do the cam as well, so i'm open to anything to make it easier to do. Basically, if this is a viable option, I can do this over spring break rather than trying to limp my engine along til mid summer. I'm on a college budget, which is the only thing shying me away from options one and two. I am just afriad i'm going to tear in to my engine , find that the cylinders have already been bored .060 over, and the crank has been ground down and I need a new engine anyways. Would this be a doable alternative?
Enjoy FTE
