I spray with Gunk brand engine degreaser, if it is real dirty you can always hook the garden hose to the bottom of the hot water heater and use the hot water to spry the engine and Gunk off the motor. It is always good to drain the hot water heater once a year any way to get rid of the sediment. So two jobs done at once….
Sounds like you already have a steam cleaner, that is nice.
