Just a quick question. One of the dash lights has burned out. it's the one in the center that illuminates the 0-40 part of the speedo and the odometer. Can this be easily replaced? Maybe drop the steering column? Or will I have to pull the dash to do this (what a royal pain) ?
Not really bad. Maybe 1 to 1 1/2 hours time. You must remove the instrument panel to get to the bulbs.
1) Dash cover below the steering wheel (screws on the bottom)
2) Remove the metal shield behind the dash cover (screws on the front)
3) Remove the front of the dash over the instrument panel. (screws above gauges). You will need to lower your tilt-wheel down and possibly move your shifter lever down to do this.
4) Remove the instrument cluster (screw in the corners) Pull the cluster out and usually you can get at the bulbs without unplugging the cluster and completely removing it. The bulbs are under individual holders. Little black *****.
5) Reverse order to install.
Not really a bad job and when you get into it what you have to remove is pretty obvious. It's been a while since I did mine but I think I got it all.
Just a word of advice, replace all the bulbs since you are in there. The old ones get dimmer over time and your new one will look great. The olders ones will now look dim.
Good Luck,
Chuck
Yes, when the front of the dash comes off the switch stays attached. You can unplug it and set it aside or let hang. If memory serves the switch is in place with one or two screws and the bulb unplugs.
