I have a 2000 expedition that started acting up over the weekend. First, it would start but not stay on, I had to use both feet to keep it on. It would turn off and I had to turn the ignition to restart it. I spoke to a friend who had the same problem and, he told me it was the idler air control valve. The next morning I was going to turn it on and at first it won't even turn over, then I tried again and it did. I had to use both legs again to get to the parts store. when I got there I replaced the idler air contol valve. When I went to start it, it did nothing!! I mean nothing, the lights on the dash would come on and so would the radio but as some as I tried turning the key it all would turn off and the truck would not do anything. I took the battery and had it tested. It tested GOOD.I had the truck towed home, the tow truck drive said it was the starter, I took the starter off yesterday and had it tested, it tested GOOD. I've checked ALL the fuses inside and out they are all GOOD. I checked the fusable link on the battery terminal, GOOD. But the truck will not turn over nor start, NOT a single noise. I do hear the relay clicking when I turn the key.
PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP!!! This is my only means of transportation.
Thanks for the reply Paul. If it was the starter solenoid. I should be able to jump the solenoid and the truck shoud try to start. It does not even do that. Please advise. I could see the solenoid being a problem because I had to start it a few times and I did smell something, but I would think I would be able to jump the solenoid and get it to crank over.
Here's a question to the board: If a PATS key goes bad, will the engine crank, or will the starter circuit be completely disabled? Firzout, try your other ignition key and see if it makes a difference.
I had my solenoid fail at the dealer while getting warranty service just prior to warranty expiration. That would be 36K miles. I was fortunate. Why does Ford use this part?
i cant really post on the forum cant find my problem anywhere its a 2000 expedition 5.4L i replaced the battery, the starter, and the solenoid, i can turn the engine over by hand, and when i turn the key the starter clanks against the flywheel but wont turn over all the fuses are good and im completely out of idea's it started one day then bam hasn't cranked in 2 months
