All I see arond town is Fords with the bed in hanging down like it has a big load in it. Then I look in the bed and see two bags of salt or something!!
I have a 1995 F250 4x2, and I use it for work ( shocking I know ) Last summer I went to a stone yard and got 3000 lbs. of crushed stone put in my bed and you would not even know it.
Ok I know that my truck rides like a tank compared to a 2005 Chevrolet 2500HD ( I ride in one for work) but can't Ford have a truck made for work?
I talked to a man at a spring shop about putting heavy springs in the back and he said you can do that, but most people that bring in Fords have a leaf taken out!
Why do we buy trucks? to truck things. I want a 3/4 ton that does not sag under a load.
The back of my f250 sits low with nothing in it. It has nothing to do with the springs being weak.. It's just the way Ford made it. I agree it looks bad, but going out and beefing up the springs further isn't the answer.
I have an '04 PSD CC LB F350 4x4 with the camper package. Rides like a dream, very smooth & easy....With a load it barely moves, which is how the camper springs work and which is exactly how it was engineered to perform. Nice car ride empty, but still able to work. I had a '97 F250 with the camper package that was a lot stiffer ride quality. Ford did it right on the new SD's.
I do not understand what you are asking...if you did not notice 3000 lbs. in the back, why do you need heavier springs?
...and you can swap the 2" block on the F250 for the 4" block. The extra 2" is needed to achieve a level ride under load due to the progressive spring rates on the leafs springs. Without it (the rates), you would have a harsher ride quality like the older trucks.
When i got my truck the rear was 2" taller than the front. So when I put a 4" lift on it I didn't add the rear 2" block. I also added air bags so when I do haul or tow my truck is level. My truck also rides alot better than my previous 97 did. It rode like tank but it was a F-350
I am so glad I ordered the camper package with my 05 F250 6.0 CC LB because when I hitch up my 27 enclosed snowmobile trailer the springs sag untill they hit the overloads ,then the sag stops, still rides level. I love the truck it has been great, but if I had to do it over agin I would have went the F350 route for the increased spring and load capicaty.
Mountaincat,
If you were to tow some Polaris in that trailer it would tow even better. LOL Just a friendly jab I tow a 26' enclosed and before I added the air bags it did only drop about 2" now it is perfect. The 2005 tows like the trailer is not even there.
Yea, I'll let my dads polaris in every once in awile but I draw the line on Yammies! haha, I wish it would snow! I think I will look at those air bags in the future! One thing for sure even this F250 tows like a dream semis roar by and it doesnt even phase the truck, doesnt even feel like the trailer is there. I like the way the 6.0 runs. That rear stabilizer bar I think helps also.
The reason you see the rear (sagging) is because you are seeing F-250's with the snow plow prep, the front sits higher then the rear, get a F-350 and the rear sits higher then the front, I can put 3000lbs in the bed of my truck and the overloads don't touch, I have a snow plow preped 350 and the rear sits a good inch higher then the front, looks good, I can have 10 bags of salt in the rear of the bed and it still looks the same, doesn't come down any at all.
It is mostly on the 250's I believe the reason for this is not only the 2" block compared to a 4" on a 350....but also when you add the plow package on a 250 it makes it just about level or even nose high a bit. The guy who lives next to me has the same truck as I (03' F-250 supercab short box) except I have the plow package and he does not, and my nose sits about 2-3 inches higher.
