High Idle

I just got My 78 f100 running after sitting for two years and before then it hasnt been used for years other than hunting and trips to the junk pile on the farm. I am driving it all of the time now and really enjoying it. however it has developed a high idle. the automatic choke pull off has been removed and the idle was turned down as low as it could go without stalling out. When I first started driving it I had to keep my foot on the gas for 5 minuites or so for it to stay running, now all I have to do is rev the engine once or twice and its fine. It doesn't have a tachometer so I dont know how high its idleing but it idles high enough that when I start it out in first or reverse I don't need to give it gas and its using alot of fuel compared to before, what could it be?

what kind of work was done on it to get it back on the road after sitting? you need to do the essentials, change plugs, wires, distributer cap and rotor, fuel filter, oil and filter, and by the sound of it you need to rebuild or replace the carburator as well...when an engine sits for a long period gaskets dry up and crack, this would allow a lean condition in your engine and cause rpm's to go up.I'd start by doing a tuneup and rebuilding the carb and go from there......also make sure you dont have a vacuum line off somewhere, that would also raise rpm's and waste fuel...
