I have a 93 7.3 5 speed 4x4 with about 268,000 miles. run strong until the other day and now it has blue smoke and misses at about 3000 rpm. Once it warms up or i am going down the road it don't smoke but when i stop at a stop light and i happen to show off my strait pipes, it lets a puff of blue smoke out on deceleration. WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM?
Have you ever had the heads done........ 200K is around the time valves guides are starting to wear significantly. They will in some cases jam open and the piston will contact the valve and the engine becomes a boat anchor. I would suggest a good compression test. Do you use SCAs in the coolant. Do you have any clicking noises under the valve covers, a broken valve spring or worn rocker assy can cause a miss too.
The turck runs like a bat out of hell until i get it wound out to about 3000 rpm. Does this sound like heads? Also, the previous owner used a diesel fuel supplement and I have run about 3 tanks of fuel since he owned the truck and I have not put any supplement in the fuel. Could this be the problem. I am unsure of the name of the supplement, but it is commonly used and is in a white bottle with a red lid. PLEASE HELP
Power service at Wallymart......... Could also be the IP is bouncing off the governor, actually it's set a little low but if you insist in doing that kinda s))t best to leave it there. Might give you a couple extra weeks before you blow it up.
Could be the valve guides are wearing and letting the oil drain into the cylinders. They may be left alone til you are unhappy with too much blue smoke or valve crashes on top of pistons. The SCA is for the radiator coolant. This helps prevent cavitation or erosion of the cylinder walls. Test strips and additive is available at NAPA, International and other truck shops. Are you sure the engine speed is correct or is the tach goofy ?? Does it have the original injection pump on it or is it a replacement and not set up properly? There is my nickel. Hope this gets ya right.
