143000 Miles new IP 1 yr old new injectors new CDR 2 months new 2.5" to 4" see through muffler soup bowel no soup = 13.3 Miles to gallon highway at 60mph 1850 RPM. starting hard. cranks real slow 150RPM or so has 1 month old matchinf 850 CCA batteries. once it's started it runs smooth no smoke. If I let it sit more than 5 minutes it has to crank for 15 20 seconds even after glow plugs cycle and boy it cranks slow. AG diesel said that the starter armature is worn and that will make it crank slow. I bought this truck to replace my F150 4.9 that I was working hard thinking it would hold up well. I paid $6000 for this truck and have DUMPED $3000 into it and I feel like it's a very expensive anchor!!!

The starter is toasted.
Get a Mitsubishi rear reduction starter for it, it will start like a champ then.
As far as the oil, can you see where it is coming from?
I would check the rocker covers. Another place to look at for oil leaking is the oil filter, they have to be installed rather tight to avoid leaks.
Diesels are expensive to get into shape, but in the long haul they are cheaper to operate. I put 300,000 on my 6.9 before the oil thirst of the engine made me change it for a reman engine.
the oil is not coming from the valve covers. It looks like maybe coming from the valley pan gasket. I say this 1 it is only on the back side of the heads where they meet the block and below the covers it is dry. I thought at first it might be coming from the oil p. sender but it is not. 2nd I pray that is not a CDR issue like PCL73 had mentioned oil in 7 and 8 causing head to warp. here is a tid bit that might have sometiong to do with every problem I have. It has a new tranny in it E4od. I noticed a slice in the sound barier on the hood. I think the serpentine belt broke while previous owner was towing, I wonder if the motor got to hot.
