Hi: Does anyone know where the casting number is on a Carter 1bbl that is mounted on my 85 300? The tag is missing and I need the number to buy a rebuild kit. Also, has anyone proved to get better gas mileage buy removing the tailgate?
Don't know about the carb, but I wouldn't run all the time without the tailgate. It helps support the sides of the bed when shut. Without the tailgate, the bed can eventually crack along the bottom corners in the rear.
The casting # is on the outside rim at the base. There are two types of carbs available, a feed-back type and a non-feed-back type, and there are different models of those types. The tag # on my OEM non-feed-back carb is EITE EE AI C 15 if that is of any help. I recently replaced my carb with a Holly rebuilt....it cost $76. Simple remove/replace/adjust. Change the fuel filter while you're at it. Rebuiding one of these carbs may work for you, but more often than not, it's a bad idea and a waste of time/money. BTDT
Thanks for the info! What model Holley did you put on? Is your engine still a 300 and with oringinal intake? By the number it sounds like your engine is a 1981?
