Ford engineering #'s
E6 = 1986
J = designed for the industrial division
L= Industrial engine service parts
9510= the basic part # for a carb
AB is an engineering revision

So it's designed for a stationary or marine engine.

I actually came up with it being a carb for a motor home. Emissions non cat.

Seems to fit given it is sold as an engine not installed in a Ford chassis.
I don't have my CD's available here for reference.
I have no idea about the 28th revision #

The 4180 is a 4150/4160 series carb that Holley modified for Ford Motor Company and it is basically an emissions carb. You would be better off replacing it with a non-emissions Holley carb. I replaced the 4180 on my 1984 F250, 460 with a Holley List #1850 carb. Same size, vacuum secondaries but picked up almost 2 mpg and the performance change was startling.

Bear it wouldn't be a 4150 series would it? I didn't know any of the 4180 series stock carbs where mechanical secondaries, or had a secondary metering block which is what I understand as the difference between a 4150 and 4160 (I could be wrong though)

The 4150 sereis has nothing to do with mechanical secondaries. The 4150 uses a metering block in the secondary side much like the primary side has. The 4160 uses a metering plate and the float bowl is directly against the carb body.

That was what I said was teh difference and I still don't remember any of them having a metering block, I thought they all had the metering plates on the 4180 ford carbs (like I said I could be wrong and just not having seen one with a secondary metering block.)

The 4180 has secondary idle adjustments just like some of the high performance 4150 carbs. The idle adjustments are all in the base plate on the 4180 rather than in metering block because they adjust air flow rather than the fuel flow, it's an emissions thing.

Number is E6JL-9510AB
Thanks Neil
Despite the J in the ID numbers prefix, this Holley carb was not specific to an industrial or marine engine.

Specific marine or industrial parts are not listed in car or truck parts catalogs. These two have their own separate parts catalogs.

Ford ID number: E6JL-9510-AB / Ford (updated) part number: E9TZ9510A .. 4V Holley Carburetor / Obsolete

Application: 1986/89 E250/350 & F 250/350 351/460.

E6PZ9A586C .. Carburetor Kit (Motorcraft CM1541)

What series or model Holley is it? Dunno, the 1980/89 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog doesn't say. / Text ~ Section 95.5 ~ Page 9 ~ Parts List #5N / Illustration: Section 95, page 4.

Most carbs, whether Motorcraft, Holley, Carter or whatever, do not have their series or model numbers listed in Ford car/truck parts catalogs.

Thanks guys for that information.
At least now I'll know a little more when I'm tunning, what I'm dealing with.

So Bear, the #1850 carb is what you replaced yours with, the linkage on that carb, it all hook back up just like what was on the engine or you had to mod it a bit.

The carb is one I worked over years ago and had on the shelf as a spare for my old truck, a 1968 F-250 with a transplanted 390 with GT heads and intake. The carb was the Ford model with the kick down kit already on it and electric choke installed. So everything was a simple bolt on.
