Flood Victim

I am new to this forum but have a complex question.
I am acquiring a 1980 F250 4x4 300-6 that is now up to its head lights in river water.

The Kentucky River went up too quickly and I didn't have a chance to go to camp and get it out before it was too deep to drive back to.

I know to remove the spark plugs before cranking, but what else could be wrong that I should check or drain?

What should I expect to have to do to get it going again?

Don't to scrap it because it is a BEAST of a truck.

Any help is appreciated

I would change the engine oil. I would also change the tranny fluid, the transfer case fluid, and both differentials. The drivetrain has vent hoses to let the fluid expand, but water can get in these if it gets too high. I would also pull the carpet or mat out of the interior.

Did the water make it to the fuel tank?

I'm sure EFI tanks are un-vented,but you never know.

I don't know if it made it into the fuel tank because I'm not sure where the filler neck is located.

I will be going to rescue it some time this week and hope to go through it as soon as possible.

Could the water have gotten in the cylinders and rusted the walls?

Will that cause irreversible damage?

Thanks for the help

All wet from Ohio!!

If you take the sparkplugs out, and squirt a little wd40 in the hole, it should be fine. It would have to sit a long time before it started pitting the cylinder walls.
