Camping Madness
Three words described the whole trip: hot, hotter, and hottest! Did I mention it was hot?
Fiance's back, all day snorkeling in the river. No sunscreen. . .I told her so!!
We did have to cross the river to get to the campsite, getting there wasn't a problem, getting back was! Low range, 1st gear, too much wheel spin, not enough momentum, and a bit of axle hop equals me stuck in the middle of the river.
Front driver wheel was completely under the water dug down into the river rock; camerawoman (i.e. Fiance,) didn't get pics of that side though.
Front bearings were going before, now they're probably shot to heck now. Front & rear diff fluids had no signs of water, thank God.
Stuck in Da'Riba
Digging out the Rocks
Strappy from my Buddy (thank god it was a Ford!)
CHARGE!
All in all, I had a frigging blast!
On Edit: Forgot to mention, Buddy pulling me out slid into a tree, really fubar'ed his pass back cab/bed and tore off his pass. mirror. I've got some lovely mesquite tree pinstriping, and whacked my tow mirror on a tree, popping out the upper glass and having said Buddy run over it! GREAT TIME!

We were south of the HWY 83 bridge as it crosses the Nueces River. My Buddy had been there 2 years ago, and we were searching for a waterfall where he had camped at before. . .we never did find the waterfall.
Google Map
We camped just after the Eastward bend the river takes south of the hwy.
The water level was pretty low almost everywhere along the river. Maybe two 20 yard stretches where it was over my head. The deepest point we found snorkeling was about 14ft down, and weird thing is that the water went from comfortably cool near the surface, to almost scalding hot near the river bottom at the deepest points. I need to research the geology, and hydrology (is that the correct term?) of the Upper Nueces to find out why the water was so hot so far down.
We did have a pretty rough first night, we made the mistake of using the larger river rocks as a bottom lining for our firepit. I had no idea rocks could burst open under the heat of a charcoal fire! We were all sitting around the fire, tending to the chicken fajitas, and all of a sudden we were being pelted with extremely hot rock chips. So many rocks were cracking open I had to cover up my arms and legs to turn the food. Chicken was pretty much ruined, but the roasted corn was good!
River was beautiful though, crisp clear fresh water, big change from the salty green I see almost every day here!
I'm hitting the beach this weekend, I'll keep an eye out for a lifted SD towing a TT.
