Body Lift ???

I have a 86 f150 4x4. Thinking about a 2" or 3 " body lift. Will I have to make any alternations to do this? Like different shocks or 4x4 shifter, hoses, lines, etc. Will I need a lift lip? I have 265 75 15 tires for now on this. Don't want too much work for just a lift.
Thank You for the help Bill

Body Lift ???

Body lifts are great, especially when bought in complete kits. If you've purchased a complete kit, everything should be there. If not, you have to move/fabricate new brackets for the brake lines, e-brake cable, and fuel lines. You should notice a gap in the inner fender-well after the body lift is on...you might want to trim up some cheap plastic and extend the inner fender-wells to help keep it clean looking...as far as shocks and whatnot you should be fine...I'm not too sure about the shifter and linkages though. I've never actually done a body lift myself. That's all I know man, wish I could be of more help to ya. have a good one!

Body Lift ???

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 26-Mar-02 AT 03:23 PM (EST)]i installed a 2" lift on my last truck, an '84 f250. it was a piece of cake and required no major modification other than lowering the fan shroud that i can recall, but it was quite a few years ago. it was a manual and reverse was pretty tight on seat clearance.

i have a 3" that came with my current '86 f250. the gaps are just too great between the body & bumper in both front and back. i'm hoping to save up the money for a suspension lift and get rid of the body lift entirely.

i'd recommend the 2", the top of the front bumper lines up almost exactly with the body and doesn't leave the extra inch gap you get with 3".

Body Lift ???

I have a 3" body lift on my 85 4x4 Stepside. There are definitely noticeable gaps, but I didn't really mind the look too much. My problem was the damn shop that did the kit didn't bother checking the 4x4 shifter. Turns out I was in 4Wheel High, the hole for the shifter was too small to allow the shifter to go into 2wheel high. I had to sawzall the opening and cut the boot for it to work. Also, the shifter hits the seat in 4Wheel Low because of the new length. Other than that, it does fine, no problems. If you have a stick it might require more modification.
