I was reading my trusty JcWhitney catalog, the other day, and I say a B&M Transpak. Have no idea what it does or controls. I do know that it
helps the shift. Can anyone give me some help on this one? Is it worth $47 for it?
I had a trans pak in my Mustang. It makes the shifts crisper and some allow you to shift the trans manually without screwing up the trans. There are different types. The one in JC Whitney is probably the one that just makes the shifts crisper. Is it worth it?Depends, does the way your truck shift now bother you(usually it does if your a Saturday night cruiser),or do you race it,if not why fix what isn't broke.
It shifts fine now. No problems yet. I keep the fluid changed and etc. just wondered if it was an idea to look at. I mainly do in town driving (stop/go) and the occasional trip out of town.
The shift improvers can actually help even if you dont have any exhisting problems. They alow the tranny to shift crisper which saves wear and tear on the torque converter.Especialy if you pull a load,4 wheel hard or race.Ive heard that the B&M is a good product, but I actually use a "Banks" Trans Commander,on my 91 F250 4x4.They run about $250,but they work well,(they change your shift to a higher RPM,which reduces the chance of your motor slipping the torque converter). The Banks system electronicaly changes the shift characteristics, the B&M I believe changes the governor and modulator pressures from the fluid passages at the accumulator. I use my truck to race Mud Boggs and it makes a big difference in its ability to hook up and haul 9000 Lbs through the mud.

I just installed a B&M shift improver kit in my 85 F250 351w C6 trans. So far I like it, It's nothing too radical just a nice crisp shift and maybe a slightly longer 2nd gear. You have to remove the valve body and change a few valves and a plate. If you need to change your filter and fluid it's a good time to do it. I got this one at Summit about 25.00. Pay careful attention to the way the shift linkage fits into the valve when you take the valve body down.
Wow Martin you really went searching ,this thread is almost 3 years old.
