I agree with most of the people posting here, you can get a good engine stand from both harbor freight and northern tools. Also they can be bulit easily and low cost. I own two engine stands one from harbor freight and a home built one. My olny regret is that they are both the three wheel type and when you are doing work in some positions they are unstable. My choice if I were to get another stand would go with the four wheel type for the stability.
After reading the opinions here, looking at web sites and catalogs,
I decided to go with the 2000 LB stand (ITEM 4420) from Harbor Freight.
I drove the 25 miles to their store and looked it over.
It's a 4 caster stand, about 43" long, decent wall thickness on the tubing.
Looks like good stability and should be no problem hanging a gas V8 or
inline 6 on it without anything bending.
It might be a little overkill for what I need, but for the in store price of
$89.99, I figure it's worth it for the peace of mind.
