Question Governor on my 2004 Ford Ranger! Why?

Hi anyone, and everyone.

I have a 2004 Ranger Edge, 3.0 Liter (which I dearly enjoy) . I wasn't told of this when I purchased the truck but one time when going out of town, I pressed the mph up to 90 mph and when I tried to exceed that, it seemed the fuel was being shut off. I've asked my Ford dealer about it and they said it's a programming safety in the truck. It also would do this if for some reason I revved it too high to fast. But in some small minute way, I feel cheated from my overall power. I mean sure, you don't really need to go that fast, but what if you do? Does anyone know if this can be taken off or is the dealership right and it's permanent?

You can get a chip that gives a bit more power, and removes the speed limiter.

I left mine alone.

Exclamation

Ford sees people like you coming.

No, I am not trying to be your mom, but IF you rolled your truck and said member of your family sued on your behalf, guess who pays, even though they have financial issues of their own already?

Yep, Ford.

I believe in "natural selection" at its finest, but hungry lawyers are always out there...

I believe part of it is due to the speed rating of the tires and the liability isues.

I have an Edge like yours. It is off the ground 18" at the door sides and any one that drives it (in stock configuration) at 90 is at risk. Ford is doing you (and the public) a favor with the limiter.
