My power assist cylinder is leaking very bad and a new one is about $300 and I cant afford it. Is there a way to rebuild the cyl. or put new seals /o-rings in it ? I just replaced all the lines and the pump and now fluid just gushes out where the ram/piston comes out of the cylinder. This steering setup has to be the worst idea Ford ever had. If I had the parts to convert it to the 78-79 style I would, but im short on funds and have enough projects as it is, I just need to get this on the road, I need the power steering with my 36" tires. Thanks.

Reason: BOGUS title edited to best reflect the TOPIC
73-early 77 F250 4x4 are the only ones I know ford did not offer power steering in the F250 4x4 before that i would think a hydralic cylinder repair shop could do the rebuild as it is just a double acting hydralic cylinder
I have been told that a semi truck cylindar may work. Depending on the truck. Dont know this first hand however. Look at an International Dealer or a Semi truck repair shop to try and match it up..
You could also convert it to manual steering if you just want to get it on the road. This would be the cheapest route to go. I had to do this to mine for the same reasons. All you have to do is remove the power assist and replace with the factory drag link. The drag link costs about $30 to $40 and it will drive just fine.
i'm taking my valve to a hydraulic shop today, look in the yellow pages under hydraulics, repair and service. thats what i did and found two places in my area that are willing to work on them. gonna take it today to get a price from the guy
..................Also , IF you have any Ford tractor Dealership(s) closeby I would pay them a visit and see what they have to offer . They deal in Hydraulics all the time so they might be very helpful . sk
