on my last rip i got 17 mpg. does this sound right? 425 miles to the tank. and i have a short bed. so i am doing to guess that i have the 25gallon tank. that makes 17mpg. is the tank size right for a 99 psd shortbed?
BEANO. hi I have no problem getting 500 miles out of my truck on 25 gallons of fuel. I have a 2001 f-350 4x4 auto trans.the key to this kinda milage is keeping rpms at about 1850-1900, when I go over that milage will drop. at those rpms I cruise at 65 mph, if I go to 75mph it drops down to about 17 mpg. 01psd
Just curious, why does it really matter what size tank you have, unless you run the vehicle dry and start with a known quantity of fuel in the tank? I check mileage by filling up, drive for hundreds of miles then count the numbers of gallons put in to refuel and then do the appropriate math. And to get a better idea yet, I do that process over several tanks of fuel and average the results out. But yes the long bed is 38 gal and I think 28 sounds right for a shortbed. Winter fuel here takes about 1-1.5 mpg off. I've been getting 16.8 lately, but had 17 when I drove a bit slower.

Exactly. Doesn't make a difference what size the tank is - fill it up, write down the mileage or hit the trip meter and run it as long as you want, fill it back up and make a note of the gallons you just put in. Do the math and that's your mileage.
