The dealer says my 99 Expedition XLT (80,000 miles) needs a "complete front suspension rebuild." I have only talked to the service advisor, not the technicican, so I am a little vague on everything they plan to replace for an estimated $1300. They said it needed upper and lower ball joints, but even if they are replacing the control arms and ball joint assemblies, is that the sort of bill I should be looking at?
Plus after cruising 3 years worth of posts, it looks like I should absolutely replace the anti-sway links (plastic and prone to breaking I understand?).
And if the front end is already apart, should I have them put in new torsion bars?
I appreciate your thoughts, especially on anything else I should be thinking about having done during this job.

Get an itemized listing of repairs. Some aftermarket parts (such as ball joints sold by Moog) are less expensive and of higher quality than factory components. If they're pulling the lower A-arms off, then I would also consider torsion bar replacement, as most of the labor will have already been done.
I'm often leery of doom-and-gloom news from service advisors. Does the front end, or the dealer's office wet bar, need to be rebuilt?
