Leveling Coils and Add-a-leaf help!

I was thinking of putting a 1.5" leveling coil in the front and an add-a-leaf in the back to raise my truck a little. I have 33's on it bone stock and i want it to sit a little higher! Will i need to buy new longer shocks? I have rancho 5000's on there now. Also would this be the best way to go for a low budget and lack of a lot of time or would a body lift be better??

sounds like your plan is dead on! i would go that route b/c it is a LOT easier than doing a body lift. no you won't need longer shocks... the only time you need longer shocks is when you get into the 6" lift range and you want some articulation. also keep in mind that the add a leafs will stiffen up the rear a lil but that may be what you want if you haul a lot!

Thumbs up

Should i go for a the whole new leaf spring or just an add a leaf? Where would i find this at a reasonable price? Also, what is involved in adding a leaf? Thanks for the info

well new leafs springs cost about $500-$600 for good ones.... add a leafs however are closer to $80 and in my opinion they are easier to install. all you have to do to add a leaf is unbolt the axle from the spring. then compress the spring with a floor jack or a ratchet strap or something. get it about 5-6" above axle. then you have to unbolt the leaf pack bolt but keeping the pack together with the jack or strap then you put your extra leaf on the bottom slip the bolt back through the pack and button everything back together. pretty easy but it does take an hour or so to complete.

here is an AAL here for $70 http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=198077&prmenbr=361

If i added a 3" add-a-leaf in the back and a 1.5" leveling coil spring in the front with a 2" spacer would i then need longer shocks? That would give me a 3.5" lift in the front and a 3" lift in the back. Would this set up pose any problems? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Coil Spacers

How would a 2" coil spacer work in the front? Any down side? Or should i just go with the new leveling coil?

lol you're thinking about this too hard... unless you are looking for all kinds of flex and wheel travel you wont' need longer shocks even with a 3.5" lift.

now the coil spacer just adds lift where as the leveling coils may or may not affect ride quality. i would just get the 2" coil spacer for the front and do the 3" AAL in the rear. the AAL will settle a little bit and end up being about 2.3" esp after hauling a load a few times.

what i would do is leave the shocks alone, add a coil spacer up front and then throw in the add a leaf in the rear.

but that's just me

I would get a leveling coil thats progessive rate, they are a very nice improvement over the stock one and the ride is also improved (we have a 91 with this setup in the front)

Where did you get them? And also were you able to actually notice the 1.5 inches?

i have everything you need to bring your bronco up about 2 or 2.5 inches (possibly more if your old springs are sagging) i bought 2.5" leveling coils, with new spring retainers and camber adjusters for the front, and 2.5" blocks for the rear with new U-bolts. i ended up selling the bronco before i put it on so its all still brand new in the box. its all skyjacker suspension parts, and i may have forgotten some parts, ill have to look today when i get home.

but i want to sell it so if your interested send me an e-mail or PM or something, i have some pictures i can send you of all the parts.

I also have a few brand new shocks for a bronco, again i sold it before i put them on.

I am interested but i cant email yet, still too new! Please email me at Mustangbd24 at Hotmail com Also i wanted to ask if i put the leveling coils in the front how bad is it going to mess up my alignment? How much will it cost to get fixed? Shoot me an email and let me know how much you want for it all and where you are located!

Thanks!

yeah the 1.5" of lift is very noticable, and looks very good with a set of 31x12.5 (they clear no problem). But they were on the truck when we got it. (ex town truck, and they put the springs in for towing, i think they put in some 3/4 ton rear springs to)
