1956 Bigwindow, Bob's F100 parts here in Riverside is where I got the quote of $300
for a used piece needing some work,

I just talked to mid-fifty and 2 weeks ago they received their new batch of front window mouldings, They are chromed aluminum.

MY glass guy said he sells the same stuff, but it is junk! as far as fit goes.

Wayne,
Give Vintage ford in Stanton on Beach Blvd, a call. 714-894-5464.

Also, you need to meet the local FTE boys in the So Cal Chapter. There are a few in riverside.

Wayne,
You are talking about the "door window trim", correct? LMC has this trim for $139 for both sides. I could not find the windshield trim in stainless only rubber for a custom which is $34.95 from LMCtrucks.com.

Hi, Everyone, I just wanted to thank everyone for their help, and thanks to fatfenders56, I located a piece of trim in Az. $275 fully polished, no scratches in great shape.

Now after all this research , I think I've changed my mind about putting the trim on my truck, my thinking is, that because I've got a small back window the stainless trim might look ,I don't want to say gaudy but, maybe a little much!

I'll have to think on it this week-end, any opinions?

We're trying to keep the amount of chrome down a minimum so each piece looks like a jewel on the truck. We thought the windshield trim was like putting a string of xmas lights around it, without a reason to bring attention to the window. That's why we're not using it. YMMV.

Thumbs up

Wayne,

It's you truck. You can do whatever you like to it. I think it would look good even with the small rear window. Sit back and have a few pops and then make your choice.

Wayne, check my gallery on my 54. I had to make the same decision two years ago. If you go with the window trim, then it is only right that you put on the shiney drip rail and the door window dress up parts. When I added up what all that would cost, I decided to go without. And I'm very happy not to have the extra bright work to polish. Jag

Wayne -

I (sorta) agree on doing without the chrome trim. My 56 is a small window too and it might look a bit imbalanced to have just a bright windshield. That would lead me to chrome trim and everything else. Of course, as Jag said, that makes cost a biggy, too.

For me, the decision about chrome was really based around two things: the truck's (eventual) color and whether I wanted a stock or custom look.

If I was going to go with white, or a bright color like red or yellow, I thought it would need the chrome. Or, if I wanted the stock look, chrome would make a nice upgrade. Chrome grill, bumper, window trim, badging, etc.

But I've decided on a custom look and a maroon color. So now, the only chrome on my truck will be the mirrors, wipers and tail lights. Everything else is a "monocolor" look, shaved, smoothed, no front bumper and minimal chrome.

My two cents...

The stainless trim around the windshield came with the custom cab option (small or big back window). I have it for my truck and I like it but that is a personal thing so do what ever you like.

If you do decide to install it you will need the rubber gasket with the slit for the trim. It makes installing the gasket a little more difficult (less area to flex).

The window trim, mirrors, wipers and bed strips will be the only shinny parts on the truck (back window is a slider but has black trim) no bumpers or door handles.

One other thought the trim helps tone down the mirrors and wipers for what ever thats worth.

Chuck

thanks to b/bford for the kind words, always glad to help. I thought about the rear window thing too so in my conservative style I decided to take a 3 inch slice from below the rear window, drop the opening down to make the glass the same size as the door glass, eliminated the lip for the rubber, rolled the opening smooth and flush mount the new glass from the inside, bought some real nice rubber gasket material from soff-seal and call it a day. It really did change the whole look of the truck, not like a big window but 'way different from the stock rear window which I've always thought was just not right. your opinions and/or comments are welcome
