Silicone

Still getting high silicone in my oil samples. No visible dust in the air cleaner. Is there a smoker or something that I could put in the pcv nipple. It's got 21000 miles on it now, and my samples still come back over 20, with a warning on intake leaks, and I cant find any. I'm thinking if I could pipe smoke in behind the throttle and there is a leak, it will come out the leak. Thanks.

With 21K on it it must be a rather new truck model, what model year is it and does it have the stock air box with the three prongs and two clips? Mine leaked around the top of the assembly, a 2002, and I caught it early. Changed from stock to a TYMAR, thought that was cleaner but to noisey and changed to a FORD AIS system. Now after 70K on the AIS my silicon levels average 6 but were 5 on the last oil change, AIS filter elements last 30-40K depending on driving environment. Now is the time to fix this before you dust the engine, you would have a heck of a time, not impossible I know of one guy that won at DRB on the issue, making Ford pay for that.

silicone

Mine is a 2003 f350, v10. The air cleaner is round and tapered, held in by a single clamp.

I've had stock,AfE, and wix-allwith the same reading. At first they said fords are high when new, then to look for leaks. What is a Ford AIS system? Wear metals are ok, but do track with the Di.

Ok Ok I've read this post 3 times already and I still don't know what the crap you two are talking about. Enlighten me here. Why are you taking oil samples and checking for silicone????? Is this a science experiment or have I been in the dark the last 40 yrs? Done all my own mechanic work for as long as I can remember and never thought to check for that. All this talk of silicone and nipples made me think I was on a plastic surgeon website. LOL. For real though what is up here?

If you look closely in my response post above you will see that I spelled it silicon, not silicone. The original poster misspelled silicon. That is dirt not the chemical compound silicone. No problem for me I know what he means.

"They" are wrong. Silicon levels in an engine come from dirt and debris ingested into it, not from break in. However, iron levels are higher during break in. It is this simple if you have high silicon levels you have a air filter leak, air system leak, air filter that is not performing well all of the list and or an oil*filter that is not. Most likely candidates are the air filter box and how it seals the filter. Switch to a FORD AIS system or (warranty consideration) a TYMAR open filter. Get another dealer this one "They" doesn't know oil from earl.

Just poking fun. Couldn't resist it. Glad I'm not the only one who has a hard time "speling".

high ho sliver people take oil samples to check how thier engine is doing. The analysis can tell if something is going wrong or about ot go wrong and can save some $. Blackstone is one company that does it. www.blackstone-labs.com since the cost of a new diesel is $10,000 or more and it only costs $20 for the oil analysis it an easy guess.
