silverstar 1157's
has anyone tried the silverstar 1157's. i thought they may work very well as brighter reverse lights. i don't really want to install separate lights because i don't need that much light but i was just wondering if anyone has tried these lights.

I got some halogen 50w reverse bulbs for my '04 f250 for about $12. I can't recall the brand but I know they have a model with a reverse beeper as well as without. I went without! lol. Anyway, I think the housing and lens aren't really the best. The new bulbs are MUCH brighter, it's very noticeable when standing behind the truck. The problem is that from the driver's seat there isn't much better visability. I plan to eventually add a set of floodlights back there, but it's not a big issue right now. I deffinitely think the halogen bulbs were worth the $$ if only for increased visibility to other drivers. Plowing snow I occasionally have to back into traffic and I want my truck to stand out as much as possible.

i think the back up bulbs are a 3156 not an 1157, the 1157 is a dual element like for a stop,turn/park light. click on this link, i think this is what jay was talking about

I installed a pair of flood lights on my 2002 F350 CC 4x4. after using them for a while, I wish I had gotten the lights with a trapezoid beam. More light in back. The regular backup lights show enough light at the rear bumper but not enough light further back. Check it out before you buy.

I found some at Northern Tool. They had rectangle ones and round ones in different sizes. The flood beams I bought came from Wal-Mart. At that time they also had the trapezoid beams but I looked recently and didn't find any but the flood beams.
I also found some at Pep Boys and Autozone.
