well it seems that the oil all over my intercooler boots is indeed from the ccv, I say that after reading all your post. My question is before I do the mod should I take it to the dealership for warranty repair or just forget about it and do the mod? Also, do you guys clean out the intercooler when you do the mod? Thanks
I'm gonna through in another question I've been wondering about. As fast as the turbo spins, doesn't it need lubricating? Sealed bearings? Anyone seen the internals?
The stock Garrett turbo bearings are sealed. The stock CCV venting into the turbo and CAC system is simply to exhaust vapors, etc. in an indirect way.
If your truck is under warranty, the dealer will clean up your boots and say it's normal, and it is. I've read where some members have flushed out the intercooler with alcohol, etc. to throughly clean the air to air cooler.
The turbo gets it's oil through passages in the pedestal that it's mounted on.
I gutted my pedestal this weekend and replaced the O-rings that are prone to leaking on the 7.3's.
I didn't clean the inercooler when I did the CCV mod 6 months ago, but I did this past weekend when I replaced the turbo. I filled it up w/ purple power and hot water and let it soak for about 10 minutes. When I dumped it out, I could tell there was some residue in there, but not as much as I would have expected.
The main reason i took mine out is because I wanted to have it pressure tested for leaks while I had the system apart. I would probably just do the mod and not worry with cleaning it out, unless you just want to.
